Terms
Using this site
Springfall.games is a website about one unreleased game, run by the person making it. These are the terms for using it — written to be read, not to be scrolled past. Nothing below is hidden in a clause; if a rule matters it is stated plainly.
The short version
- Reading needs no account and no agreement. These terms apply to the parts you have to sign in for — voting and commenting on the progress tracker.
- The roadmap is a record, not a promise. It says what exists today. It is not a release plan, a feature commitment, or a dated undertaking to build anything.
- Your words stay yours. You keep everything you write, you can edit or delete any of it at any time, and it is not sold, licensed on, or used to train anything.
- Be civil, and be yourself. Nearly every rule below is one of those two.
- Springfall is made by one person, through Vale Wind Limited, a company they own outright. That means a real contracting party — and also no support desk, no team, and no uptime guarantee.
What this site is
A place to read about Springfall while it is being made, and — if you want — to say what you think should be built next. It is not the game. Springfall is unreleased; there is nothing here to buy, nothing to download, and no account here that will carry into the game.
Signing in exists for exactly two features: voting on the tracker, and commenting on it. If you never do either, you never need an account.
⚠️ The progress tracker is not a commitment
This is the term most worth understanding, because the tracker is the most convincing-looking thing on the site.
Every percentage, stage and feature name on that page is one day's honest grading of work that already exists, published as it changes. It is a description of the present, not a plan for the future. Specifically:
- A feature at 90% can still be cut. Things that do not hold up in play get pulled, and a high number is not a reason to keep something that is not working.
- A feature at 0% may never be built at all.
- Names, stages, percentages and the systems they sit in are all provisional and change without notice.
- Nothing on the page carries a date, and nothing on it should be read as one.
- Voting does not decide anything. Votes are a signal about priority that the developer reads. They are not a poll, not binding, and not a queue.
None of this is a disclaimer bolted on afterwards — it is why the page is graded honestly rather than rounded up. Please do not make a purchase decision, or any other decision, on the strength of a row on that page.
Your account
- One person, one account per provider. You may sign in with Steam, GitHub or Discord. Do not create accounts to vote more than once — one vote per person per feature is the entire point of the tally.
- Do not impersonate anyone. Not another reader, and not the developer. A display name that is a deliberate attempt to pass as someone else will be changed or the account removed.
- The DEV badge cannot be given to you. It is issued by the site to one specific account and is checked against that account's provider id, not its name. Choosing a name that mimics it does not produce it, and trying is treated as impersonation.
- Your sign-in belongs to your provider, not to this site. There is no password here to lose. Losing access to your Steam, GitHub or Discord account means losing access to this one.
- You can delete your account yourself, immediately, from your account page.
What you post
You keep it. Nothing you write here is assigned to anyone. What you grant by posting is narrow and obvious: permission to display it on this site, in the thread you put it in, for as long as you leave it there.
Delete it and that permission ends with it. Your comments are not sold, syndicated, licensed to anyone else, or used as training data.
⚠️ One honest caveat: a public comment can be read, copied and quoted by anyone who visits the page, and deleting it here cannot reach a copy somebody else already made. That is true of every public thread on the internet and is worth remembering before writing something you would not want kept.
If you quote it, it should be yours to quote. Do not post other people's writing, art or code as though it were yours, and do not post anything you do not have the right to share.
What is not allowed
Short list, because a long one is just a longer way of saying the same thing:
- Abuse, harassment, threats, or hatred directed at anyone — including on the basis of race, religion, sex, gender, sexuality or disability.
- Posting other people's private information.
- Spam, advertising, referral links, or scams.
- Sexual content, and anything involving minors in any sexual context whatsoever.
- Attempts to break, overload or probe the site, other people's accounts, or the database behind it.
- Impersonation, as above.
Posting anonymously does not change any of this. Withholding your byline hides your name from other readers; it does not hide it from moderation, and it is not a way of being unaccountable. This is said next to the setting as well as here, so nobody can reasonably be surprised by it.
Moderation
Comments can be reported by any signed-in reader, and reported ones are looked at first. Two things can happen, and neither deletes anything:
- A comment can be removed — hidden from the thread. The text is kept so the decision stays reviewable, and it is one click to put back.
- An account can be blocked — it stops working immediately, on every device, rather than at the end of a session. It is also one click to undo.
Moderation is one person's judgement, applied by hand. There is no automated filter, no scoring, and no algorithm deciding anything about you. If you think a decision was wrong, say so in the Discord — that is the appeal, and it goes to the same person who made the call.
A comment a moderator has removed can no longer be edited or deleted by its author, deliberately: the record is what makes the decision reviewable at all.
Availability
This site is provided as it is. It is made and run by one person alongside the game itself, hosted on services that are free at this scale, and it can go down, lose a deployment, or be taken apart and rebuilt without notice.
There is no uptime guarantee, no support commitment, and no promise that a feature working today will be here next month — the sign-in system itself is weeks old. Please do not rely on this site for anything that matters, and do not keep anything here that exists nowhere else.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by agreement — in particular your rights under New Zealand consumer law, and liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
Ending it
You can stop at any time by deleting your account, which takes effect immediately and needs no reason. Accounts may be blocked for breaking the rules above; that also takes effect immediately.
If the site's community features are ever shut down, that will be said in advance in the devlog and the Discord, with enough notice to take a copy of anything you wrote.
Changes
These terms change when the site does. The date at the top moves, and anything material — a new rule, a new thing you are agreeing to — gets said out loud in the devlog and the Discord, rather than quietly edited in here and left for you to find.
Who you are agreeing with, and how to reach them
This site is run by Vale Wind Limited, a company registered in New Zealand and owned outright by the one person who makes Springfall. Vale Wind Limited is the party behind these terms and is responsible for this site.
The site is run from New Zealand and these terms are governed by New Zealand law. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 — and if you are reading this somewhere else, it does not take away protections you have where you live either.
There is no support address, no phone line and no ticket queue, because there is no team. The Discord is where things get raised, and the person reading it is the person who wrote this page.
How your data is handled is a separate question, answered separately and in more detail on the privacy page.
